Training
Our Training and Enrichment Program focuses on classes intended to foster a healthy and positive human-animal bond, promoting humane animal treatment, responsible pet care, and positive reinforcement tactics for addressing behavioral issues. All classes take place at our facility located at 21 Salt Creek Lane, Hinsdale.
Preparation for Class:
Current Rabies and DA2PP vaccinations are mandatory, in accordance with your licensed veterinarian’s recommendations for participation in any training classes for dogs over 4 months old.
Please be on time for class and be prepared with the following:
- A 6-foot leash (leather, cotton, or nylon)*
- A large amount of tiny, moist, chewy, high-value treats Boiled chicken, cold cuts, cheese, or hot dogs work well
- Your dog (please take them for a walk & potty break before class)
- We prefer you do not feed your dog a large meal before class
*At no point will any type of metal collar or retractable leashes be allowed for use in class.

Important Information
Refunds for group classes can only be offered if cancellation notice is given a minimum of 14 days prior to the first day of Week 1.
Please note that private training registrations are non-refundable and we would appreciate at least a few days’ notice for any scheduling changes for private training sessions.
Training classes will be held at our Tuthill Family Pet Rescue & Resource Center, 21 Salt Creek Lane, Hinsdale. For safety reasons, children under the age of 5 may NOT attend. Children 5 to 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
About Our Trainer
Jamie Kennedy
Animal Behavior Manager & Dog Trainer
Jamie Kennedy brings over two decades of experience in animal care and behavior to her role as Animal Behavior Manager at Hinsdale Humane Society. She holds a degree in Zoology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where she began her career working with endangered Hawaiian monk seals at the Waikīkī Aquarium.
Before joining HHS in 2021, Jamie spent 15 years as a Senior Animal Care Specialist at Brookfield Zoo, specializing in the care, enrichment and positive reinforcement training of marine mammals, including dolphins, seals, and sea lions.
Jamie is an accredited dog trainer through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator and is committed to using only force-free, science-based methods. At HHS, she works with shelter dogs to improve their adoptability through individualized training and enrichment and supports them post-adoption. She also helps owners build lasting bonds and desirable behaviors through both group classes and private training sessions in the community.
