From Convalescent to Co-Pilot: Timothy’s Journey Home

Written by

The French author Albert Camus is rumored to have said, “Charm is a way of getting the answer ‘Yes’ without asking a clear question.” Well, anyone who’s met Timothy would agree.

Eight-year-old Bulldog mix Timothy joined the HHS family in June when he was transferred to us from our wonderful colleagues at Chicago Animal Care & Control. We knew that he had some type of ear infection and would certainly need a visit to the doctor, but no one knew the extent of Timothy’s health conundrum.

We quickly learned that the sweet and lovable Timothy would need multiple medical interventions and long-term care. One of the many procedures needed was to correct stenotic nares, meaning to widen his nostrils and improve his ability to breathe adequately. Our incredible Animal Care Team swiftly found foster placement for him so that he could prepare for his many surgeries in peace.

After the procedures, Timothy reunited with his foster family to recover. Little did he know, his foster mom, Barbara, was already secretly smitten with him. Once Timothy was strong enough to be fully released from our care, Barbara made it official and adopted him!

These days, Timothy is healing well and enjoying an abundance of new experiences. Mostly, though, he’s living it up. Timothy now spends many weekends at his new lake house where he enjoys roasting marshmallows around the fire pit and watching the waves roll in. He maintains his charm and good humor, though he’ll need to work on his driving. While fully immersed in a car wash, he was compelled to co-pilot and forced himself up front, shifting the car out of “neutral”…

Oh, that Timothy.
