It is believed that good things come to those who wait. Mator and Twister, HHS graduates and feline best-friends-forever, would certainly agree. Even though these guys met at HHS and are both social butterflies amongst their colleagues, they shared a special and brotherly bond.
As robust, confident, and orange as Mator is today, he joined the HHS family in very different shape. Skinny and extremely terrified, there was much discussion over whether he might be feral. Our staff keenly noted that he started wanting to sit on laps and preferred eating with his human friends more than alone.

After progressing into our Cat Lodge, he remained edgy around new people and was very slow to trust. However, our fabulous staff and volunteers found that he was really motivated by food, and that he liked hanging out with his kitty friends, too. Slowly, surely, Mator blossomed into a staff and volunteer favorite, and he was a great friend to all cats who came and went…especially Twister.
When the deviously cute Twister first arrived, he was his normal self: sweet, outgoing, lovable. Unfortunately, we quickly observed that he had difficulty breathing, which led to the discovery of a polyp obstructing his airways! Thankfully, after a successful surgery and some rest, he healed up beautifully.
Twister then returned to the Cat Lodge, and the first cat he met was, of course, Mator. Friendship at first head-sniff, and it quickly became the stuff of legend. Mator taught Twister how to steal treats and eat everyone else’s food, and Twister became Mator’s annoying little brother, chasing him through tunnels and, generally, being menaces to society.
Mator had been with HHS for quite some time prior to Twister’s arrival, and while they were friends in the Lodge, they were not officially “bonded,” meaning that they would need to be adopted together.
One lucky day, the lovely couple, Zachary and Ashley, visited us to find their first cat together. Ashley had cared for many cats in her life and it would be Zachary’s first, and they were excited about finding a new friend. They came in believing that they were looking for just one cat. Little did they know that, in just about an hour, they would be walking out with two!

Wanting to visit Mator, they met him while he and his friends were out and about in the Cat Lodge. Of course, Mator and Twister were out and about playing together. Zachary and Ashley noticed that Twister was also super friendly, and that he and Mator were clearly best buds. They didn’t want to break up the friendship, so they took BOTH home!
It’s been just over a month since the boys have been home, and they’re adjusting famously. They certainly made an impression on their first night, deciding to play “tag” on their new mom and dad while they were sound asleep! The boys are working on their manners, and they continue to be each other’s favorite thing in the world.
These days, Twister is Twister: sweeter than cotton candy and will take all of the head rubs in the world, and there could never be enough. Mator is also Mator, but it’s said that “to be loved is to be changed,” and Mator is certainly not the same scared and starving stray that he once was.
No.
He is loved.
